Do you know the issues that impact on
families of prisoners?

Do you know where to go for information about the prison system and how to answer questions around visits, inmate accounts and transfers?
Do you know the specialist organisations that work with families of prisoners in NSW?

More than 100’000 people are directly affected by the imprisonment of a family member each year in NSW.  CRC runs a one-day workshop that provides practical information about the NSW prison system and how imprisonment affects the families you work with. Resources are  provided on the day to support you in your work with this disadvantaged group. This training is currently available to workers from Fairfield, Bankstown, Blacktown, Gosford and Wyong LGAs.

This one-day training course covers

  • Facts and myths about the NSW prison system
  • The first 24 hours in custody
  • Practical issues when a family member is incarcerated
  • Going to court
  • Visiting correctional centres
  • Prison talk
  • Children of prisoners
  • Grandparents as carers
  • Who can help?
  • Preparation for release

CRC also provides telephone support to government and community service providers who are working with ex-prisoners, their families and the families of prisoners.

CRC also provides specialised training to organisations, government departments and community workers engaged in supporting or working with post-release prisoners and  families of prisoners.
The individual training workshops are tailored to the needs of workers and organisations and provide practical information about the NSW prison system and how imprisonment affects the families and impacts on the post- release needs of prisoners.
