Men - Getting Out Soon?

CRC’s Men’s Transition Workers can provide assistance with finding accommodation (the Men’s Transition Program does not provide housing), drug and alcohol issues, dealing with other agencies like Centrelink and family and social relationships.

Parole

Parole is when a person is allowed to serve the last part of their sentence in the community. They must obey certain rules or conditions until the whole sentence has finished.

When a court sentences a person to prison for more than twelve months, the court must say how long the person must stay in prison for. This is called the non-parole period.

Preparing for Prison

When going to court, make sure you have the following:

  • Bank account details and ATM card
  • Phone/address book with relevant phone numbers
  • A warm jacket
  • If you smoke, take an unopened (sealed) pack of cigarettes
  • Enough money to make phone calls & buy smokes for the next 10 days.
  • Bring the names and phone numbers of your doctors and any prescribed medication you need to take
  • Bring your Medicare card
  • Other paperwork such as receipts for storage, legal information.
  • Take your ID in with you (driver’s licence, birth certificate etc). This will be stored with your valuables if you go to prison.

What Can I Do?

A guide for families & friends of prisoners on visiting, depositing money, mental health, transport, transfers, video visits and finding where they are.

To locate a prisoner, give Sentence Administration a call on 8346 1310 / 9289 5258 (after hours until 10pm and weekends and public holidays).

You will need to know the full name of the person you are trying to locate, plus their MIN ( prisoners ID number) and/or date of birth.

If you have any questions about a transfer, ring the Prisoner Placement Office on 8346 1169 or 8346 1153.
